Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher - Grand Traverse County

The Traverse City Housing Commission Section 8/ HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER Rental Assistance Program serves Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Antrim, Benzie, Kalkaska and Wexford counties.  THE WAIT LIST IS CLOSED.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program is a federal program that provides rental assistance to eligible low and  very-low income families or individuals. The subsidy that comes with the HCV program helps families to rent in many different neighborhoods.  Participant families include elderly persons, persons with disabilities, and working families who do not earn enough to keep pace with rising rental housing costs.  A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the Traverse City Housing Commission (TCHC) on behalf of the participant. The maximum amount of housing assistance is generally the difference between the actual rent and 30% of the participant’s monthly income. The family pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. For instance, if a family earns $14,000 per year, 30% of their monthly income is $350.  If rent is $650 per month, the family will pay $350 and the HCV program will pay the remaining $300.
